The 4th Interdisciplinary Signaling Workshop, organized by Dr. Tamás Korcsmáros and Dr. Nick Powell (from Imperial College London), will take place in Visegrád, Hungary (July 28–31, 2025). This highly interactive event brings together early-career researchers and world-renowned experts to drive innovation in inflammatory diseases, organoid-based modeling, and precision medicine.http://signalingworkshop.org/

With a strong focus on organoids, stem cell technologies, and patient-derived models, the workshop offers an exclusive platform for early-career researchers to engage with top-tier scientists and emerging leaders in drug development.

This workshop directly addresses industry-relevant challenges, including:

  • Organoid-based drug screening and personalized therapy development
  • In vitro testing of combination therapies for IBD and inflammatory diseases
  • Harnessing multi-omics for patient stratification and biomarker discovery
  • Exploring microbiome-targeted therapeutic strategies

Key Workshop Features:

  • Keynote talks from leading experts in organoid-based disease modelling and precision medicine, including Vivian Li (The Crick Institute), Joana Neves (King’s College London). Kathryn Hamilton (University of Pennsylvania) and Eduardo Villablanca (Karolinska Institutet).
  • Small-group innovation projects focusing on preclinical models, gut-on-chip systems, and omics-driven therapeutic strategies.
  • Networking in a collaborative, informal setting, with opportunities for deep engagement with potential academic and industry partners.
  • Dedicated discussions on funding, career progression, and inclusivity in science, ensuring a diverse and dynamic research environment.

Following the success of three previous workshops, the aim is to offer a cross-disciplinary platform where key players of their field share their experiences, challenges, and solutions with early-stage scientists (PhDs and postdocs). These speakers are rarely present at the same meetings, making this workshop unique and integrative. The meeting will also promote innovative thinking and future collaborations through group projects. The scientific program will be complemented with cultural and open-air activities (e.g., Knights’ Tournament, catamaran boat trip) allowing the participants to develop informal relationships as well as to discuss integrative scientific problems in groups.

The workshop will focus on inflammation related projects, from various organ systems and diseases (eg., cancer, IBD, neurodegenerative diseases) investigated with clinical, pre-clinical, or computational methodologies. Approaches that will be covered include systems medicine, disease models (including organoid-based approaches), microbiome and host-microbe analyses, network modelling, multi-omics, and precision medicine. World-leading scientific and technology experts are confirmed as speakers (see their list below).

The combination of a relaxing location, participative afternoon and evening sessions, and enthusiastic experts provides a great context for promoting collaboration, networking, and interdisciplinary learning and exploration of key questions in signaling and complex diseases.

Established and successfully trialed in 2023, this year we will organize again parallel children’s programs with supervision to support young families attending the conference.
